Definition
Keloid is a type of scar tissue that result from excessive growth of skin that injured former, which exceeds the limit of the wound itself.

Clinical Symptoms
The shape is supple, shiny, and can vary in colors such as pink, red meat, and dark chocolate. Keloid is not malignant, not contagious, and usually there are symptoms of itching, sharp pains, and changes shape. In severe cases, can hinder the movement of the skin. What is often confusing is how to distinguish keloid scar tissue by the usual scar (hypertrophic scar). Hypertrophic scar is an upward growth (prominent) scar tissue scar that does not widen beyond the wound. This scarring can be reduced over time. Keloid most often found in the ear, chest, shoulders and upper back. If the keloid becomes infected, they can lead to ulcers (sores that resonates).

Management
The only treatment is complete removal of scar tissue. However, the possibility of scar keloid operations will also be quite large, namely about 50%. So there is no single therapy that can eliminate kelioid 100%. Some therapies that can be done to treat keloids are:

* Gel

The use of gel containing Allium cepa extract, Heparin and Allantoin. Examples are Contratubex or Hexilak Gel. The gel is used to treat wounds after trauma (burns, acne, piercings, etc.), wound after surgery, and keloid. Currently, this gel is the first line of conservative treatment of keloids.

* Operations

It has been mentioned above that with the possibility of a keloid operasipun back is still around 50%. Keloid which can arise even bigger than before. However, tindaka operation will be more successful if combined with other therapies.

* Steroids

Injecting steroids best done when scar tissue starts to become thick and keloid known to have existed before. Periodic injection of steroids may reduce keloid size and irritation that occurs. But after the injection, the pain can be felt.

* Emphasis

Another way to treat keloids conservatively is to use an elastic bandage that functions as a suppressor on the keloid. Idapat bandages in use for several months. This bandage serves to prevent new scar tissue.

* Laser

This therapy is an alternative to surgery. The laser can only eliminate the keloid on the surface (that arise)

* Drugs

Currently, a drug commonly used to treat autoimmune diseases or cancer turns out to be useful for treating keloids. Examples are alpha-interferon, 5-fluorouracil and bleomycin. But it still needed further research on the use of these medications

Cause
As noted above, formed from keloid scar tissue (scar). A tissue called collagen, which normally would timbuk for wound healing, excessive growth. These networks can grow from the wounds that exist, the former piercings, acne, chicken pox, or even from minor injuries such as scratches.

Additional examination
No additional tests to diagnose keloids. Simply by physical examination alone.
